After 114 Years, Boy Scouts Of America Is Changing Its Name To Be More Inclusive

The Boy Scouts of America is rebranding to Scouting America, marking a major shift in its century-old identity. The change, announced at the annual meeting in Florida, reflects efforts to embrace inclusivity by welcoming girls and LGBTQ+ youths, following years of financial struggles and abuse allegations.

Led by CEO Roger Krone, the rebrand aims to revitalize the organization, coinciding with its 115th anniversary on February 8, 2025. Despite backlash from critics like Senator Ted Cruz, who argue that the move excludes certain groups, supporters believe this step is essential for the organization’s future. The Boy Scouts’ evolution began with admitting gay youth in 2013 and allowing girls to join in 2018, but financial issues and abuse claims prompted the need for this fresh start.
