Baby born with an DIU peg…

Doctor Shocked as Newborn Arrives Holding Mother’s Contraceptive Device

A doctor was left stunned when a newborn baby was delivered holding something unexpected in his tiny hand—and after the photo was shared, it quickly went viral.

The unusual moment happened in northern Vietnam at Hai Phong International Hospital, where a woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy—despite having had an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted two years earlier as a form of contraception.

“After the delivery, I noticed he was holding the device,” Dr. Phuong explained. “I thought it was an interesting sight, so I took a picture. I never imagined it would receive this much attention.”

The “Miracle Baby” Who Beat the Odds
According to reports, the 34-year-old mother already had two children and believed the IUD would prevent any further pregnancies. However, it’s suspected that the device shifted from its original position, rendering it ineffective and allowing her to become pregnant again.

The baby, weighing 3.2 kilograms (about 7 pounds), was born healthy and without complications.

Photos of the newborn gripping the IUD have sparked laughter and amazement online.

“This baby was destined to be born,” one person wrote on Facebook.

“A friend of mine had the same thing happen—her baby was born holding her IUD,” another commented.

Others expressed relief that the contraceptive device did not harm the child during pregnancy.

Not the First Time
Interestingly, this isn’t the first case of a baby being born with a failed contraceptive device in hand.

Back in 2017, a mother named Lucy Hellein in the U.S. shared a viral photo of her newborn, Dexter, seemingly holding a Mirena implant after her C-section. She captioned it, “Mirena fail!”

However, it was later revealed that the picture was staged—the device had been removed during surgery and placed near the baby after birth for the photo.

A Reminder About Contraception
There are two main types of IUDs, both shaped like a “T” and inserted into the uterus:

Copper IUDs, which act as a physical barrier to fertilization.

Hormonal IUDs, made from plastic and releasing hormones to prevent pregnancy.

While IUDs are highly effective, no method is 100% foolproof—this baby is living proof of that.
