A Fight Faced with Courage
Just weeks before his passing, Mangold shared his personal health struggles with fans in a heartfelt social media post. He revealed that he had been silently living with a genetic condition that caused chronic kidney failure.
“In 2006, I was diagnosed with a genetic defect that has led to chronic kidney disease,” he wrote. “After a rough summer, I’m now undergoing dialysis as we search for a kidney transplant. I knew this day would come — I just thought I’d have more time.”
Despite his declining health, his message radiated gratitude, not despair.
“I’m so thankful for my family, who’ve been my rock through everything. This challenge has reminded me how blessed I am to have such amazing family, friends, and community support. It’s been tough, but I’m staying positive and focused on what lies ahead.”
