Megan Moroney hit a career milestone this weekend as she headlined a stadium for the first time on her Am I Okay? Tour. The September 12th show at Credit One Stadium in Charleston, SC turned unforgettable thanks to a surprise visit from her friend and former tourmate, Kenny Chesney.
A Backstage Surprise
Just five minutes before Moroney was set to take the stage, Chesney appeared backstage. A video captured the emotional moment as Moroney, dressed in her signature royal blue dress and white cowboy boots, suddenly recognized him. Her eyes widened as she screamed his name, rushed into a hug, and exclaimed:
“What are you doing here?”
Text over the viral clip read: “pov: when Kenny Chesney surprises you at the am I okay? tour 5 minutes before you go on stage :,)”
Sharing the Stage Again
Chesney didn’t just stop at the backstage surprise — he also joined Moroney on stage later in the evening for a powerful duet of “You Had To Be There.” The two first bonded during Chesney’s 2024 Sun Goes Down Stadium Tour, when Moroney was a special guest. That experience inspired her to gift Chesney the song as a Christmas present, cementing a friendship that continues to shine both on and off the stage.
After the show, Moroney shared an Instagram post recapping the night, including a photo of a handwritten note Chesney left for her:
“Megan you were amazing up there. You outshine everyone by just being yourself!! I love you, Kenny.”
A New Song for Fans
In addition to the Chesney duet, Moroney debuted a brand-new, unreleased track titled “Beautiful Things.” Before performing it, she explained the song’s inspiration:
“I think if I had to pick a song that I would write to myself, this would also be it. Because I was the girl that in middle school, I didn’t get invited to the party and when I got a little bit older, I couldn’t make the guy love me and stay with me. And I just wish I had a song that said exactly this. So I think that’s part of the reason why I wrote it for my niece… It’s just a great reminder that we’re all going through something. So just be nice to each other.”
Moroney later confirmed that “Beautiful Things” will appear on her next album, though no release date has been announced.
