You might just think water is something that keeps you hydrated, but it does a lot more than that. About 60% or more of your body is made up of water. It’s found in all your organs, tissues, muscles, and it’s what makes your digestive tract work. Drinking plenty of water each day can boost your energy levels and reduce your risk for mild to chronic health problems. Choosing water over other drinks can also help you cut out sugar that might be clogging you up and causing you to feel sluggish. Find out all the amazing benefits of drinking water and why you need to be drinking more of it in your life!

Your Body and Water

Your body is made up of between 60-70% water. Babies have more bodies in their body than adults do, at about 78% water. An adult male is made up of about 60% water. That water is found in all of your tissues and organs and is essential if you want to keep all your body parts functioning. Because water is found in all your organs and tissues, it is also being used every single day. Your body is constantly burning up that water during its various processes, so you must be replenishing that water constantly. That is why there are recommendations for how much water people should drink every day. Many people have heard that you should have about 8 glasses of drinking water each day to stay healthy. However, every body is a different size.

A baby would never need 8 glasses of drinking water like an adult might need. A better recommendation is to drink about half your weight in ounces of water each day. That is about the amount of drinking water your body needs to perform its functions. If you don’t drink enough water throughout the day, you will experience various symptoms such as dehydration, constipation, headaches and body aches. Those symptoms take effect fairly quickly and worsen over time. It is your body’s way of making your replenish water. When people don’t have a good, nutritious diet, they generally are also not drinking enough water throughout the day. When patients come into the office with various symptoms, we always evaluate their nutrition, water intake and their daily habits. In many cases, the lack of eating and drinking properly is why they have symptoms.

Reducing Health Problems

Did you know that water is the only substance that exists in all the different physical states? You can find water in the form of a solid (ice), in liquid form (that you drink) and in a gaseous state (steam). Coincidentally, water is utilized in all of these three states to improve a person’s health and to treat health problems. For injuries, you use ice packs to reduce swelling, inflammation and pain in the area that was damaged. Depending on your injury, you may need to ice an area of your body for 15-20 minutes, several times a day. This simple act helps injuries to heal faster because it keeps swelling down that makes healing more difficult and lengthy.

Water in its liquid form is the most widely-used form of water, especially with our patients. Every person needs to drink an ample amount of water each day to avoid health problems. When one of our patients is injured, we advise that they drink some extra water with every treatment. If your body has enough water in it, circulation works properly, and nutrients are better able to reach damaged areas that need extra vitamins and minerals for healing. After many forms of physical and chiropractic therapy (such as massage therapy), drinking several glasses of water is very beneficial to patients. It reduces sore muscles while lubricating them. Drinking water also helps your digestive tract work, the lack of which would cause you countless digestive upsets and problems.

Drinking Water is Essential

Not all drinks are created equal. Water is found in almost all liquids that you drink, but you need to make sure you’re not filling up on sodas all day long. These types of drinks actually make you thirstier because of substances (like carbonation) they contain, whereas water will quench your thirst. If you drink many drinks that aren’t water, switching to water instead can make a major difference in your mood, energy, weight, and the amount of health problems you have.

We could go on about the benefits of drinking water all day long. There is a reason that we ask our patients to get enough each day: it is one of the simplest substances to help your health. Drinking enough water will reduce your health problems, daily headaches, digestive issues and more. Not drinking water will cause you health problems. If you suffer from small, daily health problems, try drinking a few glasses of water. If your health problems continue or become chronic, call Mile High Spine & Pain Center for an evaluation. We can help reduce your symptoms with many health problems through using natural, soothing therapies. To learn more about reducing health problems through nutrition and drinking water
