J.K. Rowling—author of the Harry Potterseries—has become a leading figure in the UK opposing transgender rights. She argues that recognizing trans women as female harms women’s sex-based rights.
Rowling has publicly misgendered people she suspects are trans, including boxer Imane Khelif, who later named Rowling in a cyber harassment lawsuit.

Many of the Harry Potter cast, including Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, have distanced themselves from Rowling’s views.

Now, Rowling is using her wealth to fund legal support for people and groups fighting to protect what she calls “women’s sex-based rights,” including in workplaces and public spaces. She also supports organizations like For Women Scotland, which oppose the inclusion of trans women in women’s spaces.
Rowling appears determined to continue promoting and financially backing her views.
