Oscar-Nominated ‘Dances With Wolves’ Actor Passes Away at 73

Graham Greene, the acclaimed Canadian actor best known for his Oscar-nominated role as Kicking Bird in Dances with Wolves, has passed away in Toronto at the age of 73 after a long illness. His death marks the loss of a trailblazing figure who helped pave the way for Indigenous representation in film and television.

Greene’s career spanned decades across film, television, and stage. After earning international recognition for his role in Kevin Costner’s 1990 epic, he went on to appear in a wide variety of projects including The Green Mile, Maverick, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Longmire, and most recently, The Last of Us. His versatility as an actor allowed him to bring depth and authenticity to every role, earning him both critical acclaim and a devoted following.

Beyond his film work, Greene achieved recognition across multiple mediums. He won a Grammy Award, a Gemini Award, and a Canadian Screen Award, solidifying his legacy as one of Canada’s most celebrated performers. In 2021, his contributions were further honored with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Greene is remembered not only for his remarkable performances but also for breaking barriers for Indigenous actors in Hollywood. He leaves behind his wife, Hilary Blackmore, and their daughter, Lilly. His passing is a profound loss to the entertainment industry, but his legacy of talent, resilience, and representation will continue to inspire future generations.
